Planning a Cruise
Cruising Range
From our base at Nash Mills in Hemel Hempstead a weekend cruise can take you over the Chilterns and past the nature reserve at Tring Reservoir. A week’s cruise can take you up into Northamptonshire to the Waterways Museum at Stoke Bruerne and through the two mile long tunnel at Blisworth. Both these grey stone villages are well worth a visit. Going south a week-long trip can take you into the heart of London, through Little Venice and to Regent’s Park Zoo. Even if you do not visit the Zoo many animals can be seen from the boat as the Zoo is built on both banks of the canal.

Personal Equipment
Hirers must bring their own teatowels, dishcloths, washing-up liquid, cleaning materials, toilet rolls and first aid kit.
Each party member should provide:
* Clothing, usual holiday wear suitable for the time of year.
* A waterproof such as a good quality anorak or oilskin.
* A change of clothing (essential, even for a weekend).
* Soft soled shoes or trainers (studded soles are prohibited).
* Wellingtons are useful but can be dangerous on board.
* Toiletries, including towels. A torch is always useful.
* A sleeping bag, or sheets and blankets with a pillow.
Boat Handling Training
Training weekends for prospective hirers who have not previously handled a 72ft boat on the canals are held several times a year. Successful completion of the 2 day course is regarded as a minimum qualification for both the adult party leaders who will be taking charge of the boat.
The Belfast is based at Nash Mills on the Grand Union Canal near Hemel Hempstead. For further details about our training weekends or about hiring the boat contact the Dacorum Narrow Boat Project on 01442 230333.
