Skippered Trips

With a member of the Project as your Skipper group members will have the opportunity to operate locks and steer the boat under supervision but as the Project member will have overall responsibility for the cruise, the usual requirement for group leaders to have completed a training weekend will not be necessary.

Because there are only a few places locally where a 72ft boat can turn on the canal, trips are usually either from Nash Mills north to Winkwell lock or south to Lady Capel's lock. Either trip takes in about eight locks and allows time to stop for lunch.

The galley on board can be used to prepare hot drinks and lunch.

A group can be up to twelve people including the leaders, numbers above this can only be accommodated if the group is divided into parties, taking turns to operate the locks and walk the towpath. No more than fourteen people can be onboard at any time for insurance reasons. Another alternative for larger groups is to change over parties at lunchtime and a location with road access can be arranged.

The cost for a day trip Monday to Friday is £120 and £160 for days at the weekend.

Departure time can be negotiated but is usually 9.30, with return at approximately 5.00 pm depending on weather, the lunch break and other canal considerations.

The usual one third deposit of the hire fee will be required and dates will need to be negotiated according to the availability of Project members. Please allow sufficient time for us to organise steerers for your trip.
